In this riveting story, he was 24 years old when he participated in his first significant combat experience (and surprisingly, what he was called upon to do, was something he never imagined). The fighting lasted six hours, and toward the end, they were almost out of ammunition. That battle was the crucial event in his life; an ultimate “What Now, Lieutenant?” moment that taught him so much that came into play in other such moments in my future.
