On this day in leadership history in 1868, Memorial Day was observed widely for the first time in the U.S. In the years immediately following the Civil War, one way Americans sought to remember the multitudes of war dead was by holding “decoration days”—days on which they would gather to decorate the graves of those who died in the conflict.
What’s the leadership lesson? Honorable leaders lead the way in recognizing and honoring this important day.
