Honoring Fellow POW and Military Leaders, Col. Larry Guarino, in His Recent Passing

Larry GuarinoOne of Lee Ellis’ fellow POWs passed away recently, and we wanted to share this special tribute for Col Larry Guarino USAF (Ret).

He was captured and taken as a Prisoner of War in Vietnam and spent 2,800 days in captivity. After his release on February 12, 1973, he served as Deputy Commander of the 6550th Air Base Group at Patrick AFB, Florida, from December 1973 until his retirement from the Air Force on July 3, 1975. Col. Guarino was the only Vietnam POW to have flown combat missions over Hanoi in a previous war. Earlier in his military career, he was commissioned in 1943 as a pilot flying Spitfire aircraft in WWII.

“He was a very unforgettable person,” said his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Guarino. “He had a lot of spirit. He always kept that energy and spirit to the end.”

We honor Col. Larry Guarino for his faithful service and leadership.
